Checking the requirements

What you want the site to do

You start by explaining what you want the site to do for you, and we will discuss with you how to meet your needs.

In computer jargon, this is called requirements analysis. The business requirement (or organisational, or personal, depending on the client) is a description of what the client wants and what benefits you are looking for from the new website.

You may have particular features which you know you want, and in some cases (larger, more expensive sites only) these features may have to be programmed especially for your site.

Site structure

The basis of the site will usually consist of logically structured sections, which visitors can navigate to using menus or other links. You can decide what links and menus you want to appear, and how the information on the site will be structured and organised. This needs to done early on, because the page layout and every other aspect of the site design will depend on it.

Content management system

However in most cases, standard features can be configured to give the result you want. Except for the very smallest sites, we will generally recommend using a Content Management System (CMS), which enables you to update the website yourself.
